Because WAG is allowing fishing boats to drop there nets right up to the beach. Holiday anglers are starting to look else were for their fishing holidays. My name is Steve Pettit and I am involved with the angling scene here in north Wales. What is happening is that because of a draconian law, boats of less than 10 meters in length are allowed to fish as close to the beach as they want. This is having a knock on effect on local and holiday anglers, and the local fish stocks. Scallop dredgers are laying local breeding grounds barron.
Purely from an economical point of view, who gives more finance to the local economy? The net boat owner or the holiday anglers who spends more in Wales in a week, then the boat owner gives in a year?
I know a lot of anglers, one of which has written to one of the web sites that I am an administrator on. This is his letter.

“If the Assembly are responsible, then they too are responsible for maintaining local business's.....and the holiday income they often depend on.
So who do I write to ( along with all the other anglers who visit Wales for their sea fishing) to seek assurance that they are going to make it worth my while spending what I would estimate at about £2,500 per annum on a total of 4 weeks of family holidays in Wales.
They must convince me that traveling anglers are going to get a deal which offers an improving fishery with fewer trawlers within casting range and policing of illegal netting.
I love Wales but it is not to be ignored that one of the major satisfiers for me is the sea angling. In the past 25 years myself, my daughters, my wife, two sons-in-law and a grandson have all enjoyed sea angling around the Welsh coast.
It's up to the Assembly now!!! Convince us you are serious about making our trip worthwhile.”

The massive decline in the number of fish actually in our sea’s, and the spoilt holidays for the holiday angler, the amount of illegal netting that also takes place all around the north Wales coast on a regular basis. The laws which allow immature Bass to be caught and killed outside of fish quotas.
These are all area’s which, if handled right would allow WAG to shine, as they are taking over from the 2 SFC’s (Sea fisheries committees) here in Wales.
I would like WAG to adopt the philosophy of the “golden mile” which would restrict commercial net boats to working 1 mile off shore. This would make such a big difference to the local bio diversity. It would increase catches for the RSA (Recreational Sea Anglers) which in turn would bring the holiday anglers back in force, which would be good news for the local economies.
