Dear Sir
Being a recreational sea angler of 45 years, I feel that I have to put pen to paper because I have a strong allegiance to Welsh fishing. I believe in the philosophy of the golden mile www.whitsandbay.org/index_level2/the_golden_mile.pdf I am a moderator on the largest and oldest Kayak fishing forum in the UK.
Northwaleskayakfishing.co.uk I also assist with the Campaign for the protection of Welsh fisheries. www.cpwf.co.uk/ as you can see I have a vested interest.
I know that boats of under 10 meters are allowed by law to lay nets right up to the high water mark. This happens very often to the detriment of the beach anglers who are sitting there watching this go on in total amazement. I have spoken to numerous anglers in the summer who have stated that they will no be coming back to north Wales for their fishing holiday because WAG allows this to go on. The law needs to be changed.
I sometimes wonder how WAG can allow this to carry on, when the revenue from the RSA (Recreational Sea Anglers) and the holiday fisherman far exceed that derived from one 10 meter net boat that has spoiled their day out. I have included a copy of a letter that has been put on our forum in relation to the above. This has been done with the author’s permission.
“If the Assembly are responsible then they too are responsible for maintaining local business's.....and the holiday income they often depend on.
So who do I write to ( along with all the other anglers who visit Wales for their sea fishing) to seek assurance that they are going to make it worth my while spending what I would estimate at about £2,500 per annum on a total of 4 weeks of family holidays in Wales.
They must convince me that travelling anglers are going to get a deal which offers an improving fishery with fewer trawlers within casting range and policing of illegal netting.
I love Wales but it is not to be ignored that one of the major satisfiers for me is the sea angling. In the past 25 years myself, my daughters, my wife, two sons-in-law and a grandson have all enjoyed sea angling around the Welsh coast.
It's up to the Assembly now!!! Convince us you are serious about making our trip worthwhile”
